About

James Reevell

Former BBC Executive Editor · Webby Winner · Media Transformation Fellow

James Reevell is an expert in digital strategy, new technology, and the hardest-to-reach audiences.

He began his career as a journalist, reporting from around the world before moving into digital leadership. He left the BBC as Executive Editor for Youth Audiences, having built and led the teams that took the broadcaster onto every major platform — TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, and Apple Vision Pro. He didn't expect that journey to include a Fortnite rap battle, an election simulation in Roblox, or a classical music Prom — but it did.

At BBC News, he developed the digital video strategy and created Cut Through the Noise for Facebook Watch, reaching tens of millions. As a TV executive, he led the relaunch of BBC Three in 2022, delivering 100% year-on-year audience growth and leading the channel's award-winning digital teams.

His work includes a Roblox experience featuring some of the BBC's most loved shows with over 8 million plays, a first-of-its-kind TikTok talent search that brought in 100+ creators, and two Webby-nominated gaming experiences.

He's fascinated by new technologies and ways of working, leading BBC TV's AI efforts before leaving. A 2025 Media Transformation Fellow at the Poynter Institute, he now advises organisations on platform strategy, audience growth, and digital transformation.
